Rick J. Delanty
“A New Perspective on Painting,” three-day workshop

Problems in painting frequently originate with problems in drawing, with perspective often being the most significant area of concern. Beginning in the studio, and using photographs and the outdoors as reference, this three-day workshop will present the fundamental drawing and painting tools an artist needs to create successful representational paintings both indoors and on location.
Using architectural models, Rick will demonstrate techniques in both drawing and painting to help students create realistic paintings, such as: layering, perspective, diminishing size, neutralized color, and establishing effective value and color relationships in a painting.
Composition, cropping, and subject selection will also be emphasized.
Artists may use the medium of their choice to create three paintings that demonstrate believable depth. One class session will be devoted to working outdoors, from life.
If you want to create paintings that “look more real,” this workshop is for you.
Oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and pastel welcome.

Presented at San Clemente Art Supply, 1531 N. El Camino Real, San Clemente, CA 92672

Peggi Immel
Architecturals for the Plein Air Painter

Never again be afraid to include that barn in your painting or to tackle portraying your neighbor’s Victorian house with the turret. This short workshop will shed light on the mysteries of vanishing points, shadows, shingles, fenestration and a whole host of other topics architectural subjects can bring to your painting.

We will focus on covering the fundamental skills needed to effectively depict buildings, fences and other manmade features in the landscape. A session in the morning will include demos and some written material on techniques as well as basic information on linear perspective and the use of a visual approach to perspective for painters. During the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to paint one or two pieces with individual attention and critique from the workshop instructor. The class will be held en plein air weather permitting.

Fred Hope's Drawing for Painters class
Fred Hope's popular Drawing For Painters class is continuing on Mondays through the Summer and Fall of 2014. This unique class is based on Fred's 30-plus years of teaching experience at the
Art Center College of Design and Laguna College of Art and Design.

The goal here is to improve each student's foundational drawing skills, elevating the quality and creativity of their painting. Examples of painters, such as
John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla and Edgar Payne, all of whom drew constantly in support of their painted works, will be presented and discussed in class.

Attendees will be working from a variety of sources, with demonstrations, examples, and constructive feedback to be featured. Exercises for the home studio will be suggested as well.

Artistic elements to be covered include: Composition, Quick Sketching, Concept Development, Value as applied to Color choices, Perspective, Lighting, Shadows and Form. Many of these exercises will begin as drawings and be finalized as paintings.

Classes are limited to 6 students, allowing for more personalized instruction and feedback. The smaller class will accommodate various levels of experience, also making it easy to join the flow of instruction at any time. Painters at any level of experience will benefit from this curriculum.

Classes are held in a spacious, professionally outfitted studio in Laguna Canyon (free parking).
Tuition is $450 for a block of 10 classes. Missed classes may be rescheduled, provided one week prior notice is given.

Classes are currently scheduled every Monday, with a morning session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and an afternoon session from 2 to 5 p.m.

If you have an interest, or know an artist that might benefit from this kind of professional training, please contact Fred directly at:
