Ned Mueller
“The Art of Seeing”
3 Day Plein Air Workshop in Seatle Area

We will be painting mostly around the countryside and in the towns of Fall City and Snoqualmie just East of Seattle. This workshop will stress the process of making a more successful Plein Air painting. I have found in my own work and in teaching for over 50 years that once you start  thinking in more of an “Abstract” manner instead of a “literal” manner it opens up a lot more options in things to paint. Instead of seeing trees, mountains, clouds, etc as they literally are we look to see them as more shapes and colors. We are trying to paint a picture that has “interesting or compelling shapes and colors” You then start seeing paintings everywhere, and it is very helpful in finding your own voice! Finished paintings may not be the goal for everyone as we will focus on the process of “making a painting work”.
Cost: $375

Thomas Jefferson Kitts

PleinAir Tuscany 2015

Advance Your Outdoor Painting Skills and Knowledge this September with LPAPA Signature Member Thomas Jefferson Kitts!

Please Note: Thomas is happy to extend his 10% Early Bird Discount to anyone who mentions this notice on the LPAPA site. Only 5 spots left!

Take your plein air skills to the next level by spending seven days painting in the sun-drenched hills of Tuscany. Stay in a comfortable 18th-century farmhouse overlooking sweeping views of vineyards and olive groves. Explore the countryside near Florence and San Gimignano. This workshop is open to beginning-to-intermediate oil painters and Thomas will offer six hours of personalized, hands-on instruction, every day. Plus, plenty of after hour contact time discussing art in general.

We will visit vineyards, farms, and ancient towns so you can paint the history and culture of Tuscany. Every day will end with the pleasures of fine outdoor dining and sleeping in a comfortable bed at night. Our week together will culminate in a private tour led by Thomas of the grand Pitti Palace in Florence, which now exhibits masterworks by the Macchiaioli Painters – Italy’s best, yet little known, plein air painters of the 19th and early 20th century. And no, you won't need to rent a car. We will pick you up at the Florence airport or train station and transport you to all the painting locations. Then, at the end of the week, we will drop you off for your departure home.

Click here to enjoy a brief video which contains highlights from 2014…

COST: We are offering an all inclusive rate of 1590 - 2090 Euros (Approx. $1968 - $2588 US), depending upon your choice of accommodations, and the exchange rate at your time of registration. We have single and double rooms with private bath, and rooms with a shared bath, to provide you with as many options as possible. Again, this price includes lodgings in a beautiful 18th century farmhouse, locally-sourced gourmet meals, transportation, and all your painting instruction – in one convenient low price! (And yes, your non-painting spouse or partner can join us at a discounted price!… It’s a great time to go to Europe as the exchange rate is very favorable right now.)

Charlie Hunter

Early Autumn Plein Air Workshop in Bellows Falls, VT

Charlie Hunter invites you to Vermont for an early-autumn painting adventure. Once a thriving industrial and transportation hub, Bellows Falls today boasts crumbling paper mills, vernacular outbuildings, railroad architecture and an extraordinary town square. Late September is a time of  surpassing loveliness in Vermont - the days are warm and golden, the nights cool and crisp (unless, of course, it is rainy and horrid).

There will be plenty of time for painting, daily discussions and critique, as well as multiple Hunter demos for those curious to witness the full act of plein-air murkiness and the use of water-mixable oils, window squeegees, cheap brushes, toothpicks and cotton swabs to achieve a distinct lack of clarity. Hunter is a member of Richard Schmid's Putney Painters, and his work is featured in the expanded ALLA PRIMA II.
