Amanda Fish
“Richness in Still Life”
2 Day Workshop in Newport Beach, CA

Learn how to use thin layers of transparent color to create rich, luminescent still life paintings. Discover the secrets to simplify your palette, gain a better understanding of transparent and opaque colors, and capture a still life with a fresh feel. Amanda will give a painting demonstration each morning, working from a photograph she has taken of a still life set-up. On the first day, each student will choose from several large-format photographs provided by Amanda. On the second day, you are welcome to work from your own still life photograph or choose from Amanda’s selection of photos. Simple strategies and plenty of one-on-one instruction will help you master warm shadows, color harmony, brush work, and composition.

Location: Newport Beach, CA
Tuition: $225

Class size is limited to ensure individual attention and instruction. Please contact the Debra Huse Gallery at 949.723.6171 or to enroll.

Fred Hope's Drawing for Painters Class
Fred Hope's popular Drawing For Painters class is continuing on Mondays through the Summer and Fall of 2014. This unique class is based on Fred's 30-plus years of teaching experience at the
Art Center College of Design and Laguna College of Art and Design.

The goal here is to improve each student's foundational drawing skills, elevating the quality and creativity of their painting. Examples of painters, such as
John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla and Edgar Payne, all of whom drew constantly in support of their painted works, will be presented and discussed in class.

Attendees will be working from a variety of sources, with demonstrations, examples, and constructive feedback to be featured. Exercises for the home studio will be suggested as well.

Artistic elements to be covered include: Composition, Quick Sketching, Concept Development, Value as applied to Color choices, Perspective, Lighting, Shadows and Form. Many of these exercises will begin as drawings and be finalized as paintings.

Classes are limited to 6 students, allowing for more personalized instruction and feedback. The smaller class will accommodate various levels of experience, also making it easy to join the flow of instruction at any time. Painters at any level of experience will benefit from this curriculum.

Classes are held in a spacious, professionally outfitted studio in Laguna Canyon (free parking).
Tuition is $450 for a block of 10 classes. Missed classes may be rescheduled, provided one week prior notice is given.

Classes are currently scheduled every Monday, with a morning session from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and an afternoon session from 2:00 to 5:00 pm

If you have an interest, or know an artist that might benefit from this kind of professional training, please contact Fred directly at:

Join me this Fall, 2014 for a weekly Wednesday plein air class from 10am-1pm in various locations in and around Orange County

Each Week we will visit a new area location and focus on a site specific lesson such as how to paint reflections or how to create depth and atmosphere in a painting.  Throughout the classes I will focus on composition, line, value, color and edgework.
The carefully chosen locations will provide a wide variety of landscapes to paint including beaches, cottages, wineries, vistas, gardens, missions and more.

At each session, I will begin with a brief lecture and demonstration. For the rest of the class I will give you personal help at your easel while you work on your own plein air painting.

The cost is $295.00 for all 10 classes.  Once registered I will email you the list of all 10 locations with addresses and parking instructions.
Please email me for more information about availability, supplies, etc. at
